EAS has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Fisheries Technician to assist on a contract providing Biological Services to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District.

We are currently looking to quickly fill a full-time Fisheries Technician position at Little Goose Dam near Dayton, Washington. This position is expected to work approximately 40 hours per week, with the possibility of overtime. The pay rate for this position is $25.22 per hour, plus an additional $5.09 per hour toward health and welfare benefits. Health and welfare dollars may be reduced if participating in employer-sponsored benefit plans.

This seasonal position is expected to continue through November 12. Although this position is advertised for work at Little Goose Dam, there may be opportunities for additional work at other sites, including Lower Granite, McNary, and Ice Harbor Dams, depending on project needs.

Housing may be provided for this position and is located approximately 30 minutes from Little Goose Dam.

Essential Functions

• Assist with sampling fish at USACE hydroelectric projects, including juvenile salmonid and non-salmonid species identification, identifying fin clips, weighing and measuring fish, and identifying injuries and diseases.
• Accurately record information in spreadsheets and collate and summarize information for weekly and annual reports.
• Conduct juvenile and adult fishway inspections of the dam and fish facility to ensure operations follow criteria established in the USACE Fish Passage Plan.
• Identify piscivorous avian predators.
• Produce accurate weekly reports distributed to state and federal agencies.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience as a fisheries technician or biologist evaluating the health of juvenile salmonids.
• Experience with fish handling and anesthetizing fish.
• Work experience at a large hydroelectric project smolt collection facility.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Access.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a wide range of personalities.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to accurately interpret and follow established protocols, guidelines, and procedures.
• Ability to meet USACE requirements and security clearances to work at dam sites on the Snake and Columbia Rivers, including approximately eight hours of online training prior to the first onsite shift.
• Knowledge of Snake and Columbia Rivers fish species.

Education

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a natural resources field or closely related discipline with relevant work experience.

Additional Requirements

• Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, walking up to five miles per day, and working outdoors in various weather conditions and around spiders/insects.
• Must have reliable transportation and be able to commute to remote locations. Commuting time is not compensated.
• Must be available to work regularly scheduled shifts for the duration of the season, as backup staffing is limited. Some overtime is required.
• Must be willing to work early mornings, with shifts beginning onsite at approximately 6:30 a.m. and continuing through late morning or early afternoon.
• Weekend and/or holiday work is required. A typical schedule for this position is Wednesday through Sunday.
• Ability to adapt to variable work schedules.
